The first in the history of the United States Transgender MP appealed to the Russian LGBT

Transgender, a representative of the Democratic Party, a member of the US House of Delegates of the 13 District of Virginia, Danica Roem, addressed the representatives of the Russian LGBT community with words of support.

Video message published in Facebook Nadya Valueva, Marketing Director Magnitsky Act Initiative, who recognized Roem on the street and went to say hello.

“Yesterday, walking down the street, I saw Danika quite by accident. ... She turned out to be super friendly and said that she had arrived that day for the trial of a man accused of murdering her transgender friend. I told her that I am from Russia, but have been living in the USA for the last 6 years, and that in Russia, things are very bad with gay rights, as with human rights in general. That members of the LGBT community are persecuted and killed, and the murders are covered up. Danika said that she knew about this and offered to support the Russian LGBT community by recording an appeal,” Valueva wrote.

In her address, Roem called what is happening with LGBT people and transgender women in Russia "absolutely horrible."

“Stand up for your rights. Keep believing, keep trying to change what's happening. You can succeed because of who you are, not despite it. I am living proof that you can win, that you can make huge changes just by being yourself. Never let anyone even try to change you. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you are wrong. “Be who you are and be the best,” in the words of St. Francis de Sales. So, keep resisting! Keep fighting! And we are truly stronger when we are together,” Roem said.

Recall 32-year-old former journalist Danica Roy became a member of the Virginia Chamber of Delegatesby defeating Republican Robert Marshall, who held this position for more than 20 years. It will be the first open transgender in a public office in the United States. Roy got 54,6% votes and Marshall got 45,4%. The former journalist managed to raise almost 3 times more money for her campaign than Marshall - $ 500 thousands. Most donations came from LGBT people.
