New housing lottery in Brooklyn: how to rent an affordable apartment

The New York City Housing Authority regularly conducts lottery on the right to rent available apartments in different areas of the city.

We collected information about two lotteries in Brooklyn that were launched on February 15.

3 apartments in new building in Crown Heights

The building is located at: 1547 East New York Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212. Three three bedroom apartments for $ 2 300 per month participate in the lottery.

To be eligible for the lottery, applicants must have an annual income between $78 and $858 for a family of three; $122 to $070 for a family of four; $78 to $858 for a family of five; $135 to $590 for a family of six; and $78 to $858 for a family of seven.

3 apartments in new building in Brooklyn

The building is located at: 1543 East New York Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212. One-bedroom 1 apartment costs $ 2 050 per month and 2 two-bedroom apartments - $ 2 300 per month.

To be eligible to participate in the lottery, the annual income of applicants must be from $ 70 286 to $ 122 070 for applicants for a one-bedroom apartment (people living alone, as well as families of two and three people can apply for it); and $ 78 858 to $ 146 510 for those who want to rent a two-bedroom apartment (families consisting of 2-5 people can apply for it).

Sign up for NYC Housing Connect

For registration in NYC Housing Connect You must provide a valid email address and basic contact information. You can update this information at any time. Only one account per household is allowed.

Fill in your household information

You will be asked to provide details of employment and income (for you and all household members). Once you have started the application process, you can save the application and return to it at any time. To apply, you must fill in all required fields.

To submit an application, click on the “Submit Application” button for any of the residential properties for which you are entitled to apply. For one residential object you can submit no more than one application. The application must be submitted no later than the deadline. You can check whether the application has been filed in the section "Application Status".

Track application history

You will be contacted in the event that your application will be randomly selected at the stage of the initial registration of the lease. Please note that due to the large number of applications it is impossible to contact each applicant for each project. You can view all the projects for which you have applied for in the Residential Objects List (Search tab). Here you can check whether the application has expired or has expired.

If you do not want to apply online, you can submit it in paper form. An application form can be mailed to you. Go to the ad for the project you are interested in on the Search page. There you will learn how to get an application form by mail and where to send the completed form. To receive the announcement and the application form in Russian, send an envelope with your return address to: 229 Cherry Street, The Wavecrest Management Team, 87-14 116th Street, Richmond Hill, NY 11418. On the back of the envelope, write the word “RUSSIAN” in English.

Applicants are not required to pay an application fee, but they may be charged for a credit check that is not refundable.
