NATO may intensify military maneuvers in the Baltic Sea
As Allied Europe’s Force Commander in Europe, General Philip Breedlove, told 13 on Tuesday, the Alliance is considering stepping up exercises in the Baltic Sea in response to additional maneuvers conducted there last month by Russian military forces.
“There will be some changes in our exercise program. The first stage will not be to increase their number, but to group them, (in order to) better prepare our forces and our countries for joint actions within NATO. However, we are thinking about expanding some of the exercises, ”said Breedlove during a visit to the NATO base in Szczecin (north-western Poland).
Breedlove also noted that Russia continues to provide assistance to separatists in eastern Ukraine, which darkens the prospects for peace talks.
“Yes, there was a temporary lull, but not in terms of supply, training and organization of forces east of the conflict line. Their activities continue to be cause for concern,” General Breedlove stated, writes Voice of America.
