Hope for illegal immigrants: the deportation of all citizens of Iraq is suspended in the USA

On June 26, a federal judge suspended the deportation of all Iraqis detained during immigration operations in the United States during June.

Deportation is suspended at least until July 10, reports Huffington Post.

The judge passed a similar decision about a week ago, but then it protected only 114 Iraqis detained in Michigan from deportation.

The decision was made at the request of the American Civil Liberties Union, who are trying to protect Iraqis from deportation, arguing that the deportees may face persecution, torture or death in their homeland, since many of them are Chaldean Catholics, Sunni Muslims or Iraqi Kurds, who often face with ill-treatment in iraq.

The judge concluded that the severity of the consequences deportees would face “far outweighs any benefit the U.S. government might receive from their immediate deportation.”

According to the federal immigration authorities, deportation decisions were made, but not implemented, against 1 444 Iraqi citizens, while only 199 of them were detained as part of immigration raids.

Most of the detainees had convictions for serious crimes, including rape and kidnapping.

Recall, from June 29, the State Department will again begin implementation a temporary ban on the entry into the US of citizens of six predominantly Muslim countries (Libya, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen), provided for by decree of President Donald Trump.
