On the border of the USA, a group of illegal immigrants was the largest in number

A group of over a thousand illegal immigrants was detained after illegally crossing the border near El Paso, Texas, on the morning of May 29.

The 1036 team is the largest border patrol ever detained; the previous record was set last month during the detention of a group of 424 people, writes NBC News.

The Customs and Border Protection Service noted a tendency to increase the number of illegal immigrants crossing the US border. In the 2018 fiscal year, border guards encountered 13 groups of more than 100 immigrants. Now, according to Brian Hastings, head of the US border patrol law enforcement operations, agents see groups consisting of more than 100 illegal immigrants almost daily.

US President Donald Trump told reporters on Thursday morning, May 30, that he will make his “biggest statement on the frontier” later that day or Friday.

Officials suggest that the detention of a large group of illegal immigrants at the border will form the basis of his statement.

The 1036 immigrants in the group included 934 people traveling to the U.S. with other members of their families, 63 unaccompanied children, 39 adults traveling alone and several individuals who had not yet been identified. All of them are from northern Central America: 515 from Guatemala, 135 from Honduras and 76 from El Salvador.

Human rights activists say that more and more immigrants travel in large groups because they believe in “safety in quantity” because the conditions they face on their way to the US are quite dangerous. US officials say that large groups greatly complicate the work of medical teams and border agents, who most often patrol the border in pairs.

In recent months, the total number of illegal immigrants crossing the border at and between the ports of entry has increased dramatically. In March and April, the number of illegal immigrants detained at the US border, exceeded 100 000 in each of these monthswhat was the highest monthly figures for 12 years.

One of the officials of the Department of Homeland Security said that the agency expects that in May the number of illegal immigrants detained at the border would exceed 120 000 people.
