Catalonia declared independence from Spain, Madrid introduced direct government in the region

October 27 Parliament of Catalonia adopted a resolution on independence from Spain.

70 MPs voted for this, 10 opposed, two abstained, reports “Medusa".

The remaining 53 MP (altogether 135 deputies in it) boycotted the vote.

The vote in the Parliament of Catalonia took place the day after the head of the region, Carles Puchdemon, refused to hold early elections of the authorities of the region - this was the demand of the central government of Spain to resolve the situation.

In response to the declaration of independence, the Spanish Senate voted to remove the leadership of Catalonia from power and the introduction of direct government in the region from Madrid. 214 senators voted for this, 47 voted against, one abstained, reports “Medusa".

At the request of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Senators introduced the 155 article of the Spanish Constitution relating to the situation when an autonomous region threatens order in the country, in connection with which its autonomy may be suspended.

The measures introduced by the Senate will come into force on October 28. After that, the government of Catalonia will be removed from the management of the region, and the parliament will be re-elected in early elections.

Recall October 1 in Catalonia held a referendum on independence from Spain, which was declared illegal by the country's constitutional court. 90% of participants voted for separation from Spain.

Voting was accompanied by protests of supporters of a unified Spain and the Catalan branch, as well as their clashes with the police, resulting in hundreds of people were injured.
