ICE conducted an immigration raid in Wisconsin: a Russian was among those arrested
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) agents conducted a 4-day Wisconsin immigration raid during which 83 immigrants were arrested, including one Russian citizen.
Agents detained 77 men and 6 women, 44 arrested previously had criminal convictions, the report says on the site ICE.
The detainees included citizens from eight countries: Colombia (1 people), Guatemala (6), Honduras (2), Mexico (68), Nicaragua (3), Russia (1), Thailand (1) and Vietnam (1).
More than half of the foreigners arrested during the operation previously had criminal convictions, which include convictions for the abuse of a minor; attack; sexual abuse; child abuse; domestic violence; theft, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; identity theft, illegal return after deportation; theft; attacks on a man with a weapon.
Sixteen of those arrested did not have criminal sentences, but were illegally in the United States. Another 21 man re-entered the United States after being deported earlier, which is a criminal offense.
Depending on the history of the crimes, a foreigner who returns to the United States after deportation may be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
All those detained during this operation were arrested and further deported in accordance with the US Immigration and Citizenship Act.
Before conducting such operations, the ICE makes a list of targets whose arrest is a priority.
However, during operations, agents often encounter other foreigners illegally located in the United States. The ministry stressed that in each case, the ICE staff conduct a threat assessment of this person and, if necessary, also arrest him.
