State Department advised Americans not to go to the Bahamas
The US State Department issued recommendations for citizens of the country, calling for restricting travel to the Bahamas due to high levels of crime, theft, robbery and sexual violence, and unregulated use of pleasure craft, writes Fox News.
The warning was issued on 25 in February and calls on American tourists to "exercise increased caution" when traveling to popular tropical islands.
“Violent crimes such as burglaries, armed robberies, sexual attacks are common even during the day and in tourist areas. The majority of crimes occur on the islands of New Providence and Grand Bahama,” the alert states.
“Activities associated with commercial recreational watercraft, including boat tours, are not always regulated. Many companies do not have safety certificates to operate in the Bahamas,” the State Department notes.
“Jet ski operators are known to sexually assault tourists,” the notice adds.
In addition, US government officials are not allowed to visit the Sand-Trep area in Nassau due to the large number of reported crimes.
According to TravelPulse, during the past year, the US and Canadian governments issued three warnings about trips to the Bahamas.
Belize, Germany, Spain, and France (due to the threat of terrorism), as well as for San Centinela, South Florida, are also assigned a second level of danger and warnings about visits.
