Ex-Pentagon official spoke about the possible consequences for Ukraine of a special operation with Babchenko

In an interview with the Ukrainian service "VOA»The former Pentagon Minister and Director of the Biden Analytical Center at the University of Pennsylvania, Michael Carpenter, announced the possible implications of the Babchenko special operation for the Ukrainian authorities.

“I think there will be long-term consequences that will relate to trust in the SBU and in general in government institutions. Therefore, from now on people will hesitate. Unfortunately, the next time tragedy strikes and a journalist or dissident is killed, everyone will pause and wonder if the news is true. And that's an unfortunate consequence in the long run,” said Michael Carpenter.

According to Carpenter, Russia is undoubtedly trying to exploit this situation and question the general veracity of Western sources of information. This is especially dangerous at a time when trust in the media in the world is falling, the expert said. He hopes that as a result of this special operation, the Ukrainian special services really collected enough evidence against the customers and perpetrators who prepared this crime.

“If it was the only way to save a person’s life and catch a potential killer, then this situation has some measure of excuse. But one has to wonder if this was the only way to act like that? And obviously, misleading the media always has its price. It does not get away with it, and in this situation it will not get away with it, ”he said.
