DiCaprio thanked the residents of Yakutia for the silver Oscar
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, winner of the Oscar for Best Actor, thanked the residents of Yakutia for sending him a homemade figurine made of silver.
“Thank you to the residents of Yakutia for this wonderful gift, especially to the women who collected and donated the materials from which the figurine was made,” wrote the actor on Instagram, accompanying the post with a photo of the figurine.
As ForumDaily previously reported, the presentation of the “silver Oscar” to DiCaprio under the name Elley was organized by activist Tatyana Egorova from Yakutia. Elley was sculpted from 1,38 kg of silver, which were brought by fans of the actor.
“Their letter says that Yakutia is one of the coldest regions not only in Russia, but throughout the world […] Global warming poses a serious threat to its inhabitants,” the actor wrote.
While receiving his award at the Oscars on February 29, DiCaprio also reminded of climate change. In particular, due to global warming, the film crew for The Revenant, according to the actor, had to go to the southernmost part of the planet to find snow.
“Let's not take our planet for granted,” said Leonardo DiCaprio with the coveted statuette in his hands. “I don’t take today’s [award] for granted. Climate change is real, it's happening right now. We must work together."
Previously DiCaprio four times nominated for an Oscar for his performances in various films, but could not win. Numerous Internet memes were dedicated to this, and the main intrigue of the last ceremony unfolded around this. Bookmakers even took bets on whether DiCaprio would win or not.
