Bulgaria and the United States intend to develop cooperation with an emphasis on the economy and energy
Bulgaria and the United States are strategic partners and will develop bilateral cooperation with an emphasis on deepening economic ties, ensuring energy and global security. This position was supported by Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and US Secretary of State John Kerry.
During the talks, Kerry confirmed that “the United States stands firmly behind its NATO allies in the context of the situation in Eastern Ukraine” and praised Bulgaria’s contribution to humanitarian operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, and to increasing NATO’s defensive capabilities in the Black Sea region.
Plevneliev assured the Secretary of State that Bulgaria’s commitments towards NATO regarding increased defense investments would be fulfilled. He also expressed the opinion that the achievement of a workable agreement in the framework of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership of the EU with the United States will allow new standards of economic cooperation and economic growth to be built.
