Tickets from San Francisco to Tokyo for only $91: Japanese low-cost airline launches a new flight

ZIPAIR, a low-cost Japanese airline, will begin flights between Tokyo's Narita International Airport and San Francisco International Airport on June 2. The new route will be the carrier's fourth U.S. city after flights to Honolulu, Los Angeles and California's San Jose Mineta International Airport. Travel Leisure.

“We are confident that this service will provide a commercial and cultural exchange for our mutual SFO customers,” said ZIPAIR President Shingo Nishida.

The new flight will operate five times a week between the US and Japan on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. One-way fares will start at $91.

ZIPAIR was first established in 2018 and is a subsidiary of Japan Airlines (which is known for having some of the most luxurious economy class seats). The airline currently flies to six international destinations: Bangkok, Seoul, Honolulu, Singapore, Los Angeles and San Jose.

The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 787 8 Dreamliner aircraft and offers free on-board Wi-Fi to all customers, as well as free carry-on baggage of up to 7 kg. However, ZIPAIR charges for other things, such as food that can be ordered through a smartphone or tablet.

Next month, Japan will lift all border restrictions related to COVID-19, cancel vaccination and testing rules on May 8. Currently, all travelers bound for the country must present either proof of three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine or a negative test that was taken within 72 hours prior to departure.

Japan also lifted the mandatory wearing of masks on March 13.

The country reopened to solo travelers for the first time last year. At first, Japan only accepted travelers on supervised tours, and then eventually began accepting independent travelers in the fall of 2022.
