US intelligence secretly monitors flight passengers

The purpose of the program, known as Quiet Skies, is to collect information about the behavior of people at the airport and on the plane in order to prevent any potentially dangerous aviation threats, confirmed CNN TSA official.

In his words, before people get on the plane, more official people use information from intelligence and their previous travel patterns to help choose whom to focus on. The official added that the program has existed in one form or another since 2010, and added that Congress is aware and provides “reliable” control.

According to government records, thousands of unsuspecting Americans were monitored at the airport and on board aircraft. They were followed by small groups of air traffic controllers.

Officers can wear civilian clothing to study travelers and define more than 90 behaviors that TSA interprets as stress, fear or deception, according to the report.

Here are some gestures that may be suspicious to a TSA employee: yawning, whistling, rubbing hands, or being late for a flight. Other more subjective patterns of behavior include “wearing the wrong clothes” or “displaying exaggerated emotions”, and sometimes contradictory - passengers who “do not have or have very little direct eye contact” or “look with wide eyes” are equally suspicious for TSA.

When officers notice such behavior among travelers, they follow them, subject them to additional checks, and sometimes bring them to law enforcement agencies for further interrogations.

The TSA assured that the program does not target ordinary Americans.

All US citizens entering the United States are automatically considered to be included in the program, as officials check their names on observation lists and study their travel patterns, according to documents.

The representative of the TSA did not disclose more detailed information, but said that people are not divided into race or nationality.
