'To achieve victory over Trump': billionaire Bloomberg entered the presidential race

Billionaire and former mayor of New York believes that none of the current candidates are able to defeat Donald trump in the presidential election of 2020, writes Air force.

77-year-old Bloomberg on Friday night filed for registration as a candidate from the US Democratic Party in the primary election in Alabama.

The ex-mayor of New York filed the documents necessary to participate in the race at the last moment, but has not yet officially announced that he will fight for the presidency.

On Friday morning, Trump mockingly commented on reports of Bloomberg's intention to run for president. “There is no one [among Democrats] whom I would most like to run against than little Michael,” the US President said.

Currently, 17 candidates are seeking nominations on the list of the Democratic Party.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders are considered favorites.

Recent polls indicate that if Sanders or Warren are nominated as Democrats, they will not be able to win the November election of 2020.

“Nothing will work out for him [Bloomberg], but I think he will actually hurt Biden,” Trump said.

Currently, three Republicans intend to challenge President Trump, seeking nomination.

As Bloomberg's adviser said earlier, Howard Wolfson, the former mayor of New York is seriously considering the possibility of participating in the presidential campaign, based on his political experience, leadership qualities and ability to unite people.

“Now we have to follow through and defeat Trump,” Wolfson said.

“Michael is increasingly concerned that none of the current candidates are able to do this,” the Bloomberg adviser added.

Bloomberg's fortune is estimated at 52 billion dollars. This is almost 17 times more than the fortune of Donald Trump (3,1 billion dollars).

Bloomberg was a Wall Street banker and then founded the financial news agency that bears his name. He donates millions of dollars to educational and medical projects.

Bloomberg initially supported the Democrats, but became a Republican to run for mayor of New York in 2001.

He was re-elected three times to the post of mayor until 2012 and only last year restored his membership in the Democratic Party.

He is considered a moderate Democrat who advocates for US participation in international climate control agreements. He also supports the firearms control movement that he helped found in 2014.

This movement, receiving significant financial support from Bloomberg, played a leading role in the Democratic convincing victory in the Virginia Legislature this week.

The movement invested 2,5 million dollars in the Democratic election fund in that state. This is significantly more than the contribution of the National Rifle Association, which supported the Republicans and whose headquarters is located in Virginia.
