Saakashvili will challenge in court the deprivation of citizenship of Ukraine
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili accused Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko of “using Soviet illegal dictatorial methods” in depriving him of Ukrainian citizenship. Saakashvili stated this in an interview Radio Liberty.
The former governor of the Odessa region, Saakashvili, said that he entered Poland from America using a Ukrainian passport, and said that not all countries recognize “the dictatorial habits of some people who decided to act using Soviet methods.” According to Saakashvili, depriving him of citizenship was a completely illegal action on the part of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, since he violated the Constitution of Ukraine and the international Convention on the Avoidance of Statelessness.
Saakashvili said that his only goal now is to restore his rights, go to court and get a court decision, “achieve this inside Ukraine” and after that deal with other issues. The ex-president of Georgia expressed confidence that he will achieve his goal.
On August 4, the former President of Georgia and the ex-governor of the Odessa region, Mikhail Saakashvili, took part in celebrations in Poland to mark the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 of the year against the Nazi occupation. This was his first international trip since the time when President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko deprived him of his Ukrainian citizenship on July 26.
