92% of foreigners in federal prisons are illegal immigrants
The new report, published on Thursday, December 21, by the Trump administration, shows that 92% of foreign citizens who are serving sentences in federal prisons are in the US illegally. According to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, this data suggests that the United States should follow President Trump’s proposed immigration reform.
A report from the 2017 of the year, prepared by the Ministries of Justice and National Security, found that every fifth or more prisoner was not born in the United States. In addition, 94% of foreign citizens in custody illegally entered the United States.
Sessions has stated that Americans “are victims of illegal immigrants who have committed crimes. ... The simple fact is that any crime committed by an illegal can ultimately be prevented. ”
The Attorney General also noted that, based on data on sentencing, “non-citizens commit a substantially disproportionate number of drug-related crimes, which contributes to our national drug abuse crisis.”
By the end of the 2017 fiscal year, 58 766 accused or suspected foreign nationals were imprisoned in the United States.
Recently, the national security secretary, Kirsten, Nielsen added that the report stresses "what else needs to be done," and added that the department "will continue to follow the priorities of President Trump."
The report did not include information on incarcerations in state prisons or prisons. “State and local agencies routinely do not provide comprehensive information to the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security about their inmates and detainees, who account for approximately 90% of the total U.S. prison population,” the report said.
In October last year, the Trump administration announced that it was pursuing several major changes in the country's immigration system, in connection with the creation of a new wall on the border with Mexico.
