2 million illegal immigrants can get US citizenship

Republican senators on Monday submitted a bill that, if adopted, would create the conditions for obtaining 2 American citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children.

According to "Voice of America"Republican Senator Thom Tillis, along with Senators James Lankford and Orrin Hatch, announced a bill for undocumented children through careers, employment, education and protecting our nation, called the SUCCEED Act, at a press conference on Monday.

“This bill is about children. It is entirely merit based. If you work hard, follow the law, pay your taxes, you can stay here forever,” said Senator Tillis.

According to the conditions, future citizenship recipients will remain in the so-called “conditional permanent residence permit” for five years while they work, study or serve in the armed forces.

They can then reapply for a second five-year suspended sentence.

Only ten years after participating in the program, the people falling under its action will be able to lift the restrictions and obtain a permanent residence permit. This status allows you to apply for citizenship.

The survey, published last week, demonstrates that Americans overwhelmingly support actions to legalize those who came to the United States as a child.

Presidential Administration Donald Trump in early September announced that ends the Deferred Action Program for Children Arriving in the USA (DACA). The program allowed these individuals to remain in the country. Trump gave Congress six months to develop an alternative plan.

The DACA was created on the basis of a memorandum from the US Department of Homeland Security and was supported by then-President Barack Obama, after US lawmakers could not accept comprehensive immigration reform in Congress. Without the new law, hundreds of thousands of people will become undocumented immigrants and will be subject to deportation - the DACA expires in two years.

The SUCCEED Act is not a long-awaited comprehensive immigration reform that has not received congressional support on several occasions. The authors of the bill stated that the document is not a “separate” legislative act, and suggested that in the future it could become part of a larger immigration bill or a bill related to border security.
