In Seattle, a man shot a Russian-speaking family in front of small children

The suspect first appeared in court on 11 August.

Judge Tam Bui set him $5 million bail.

The suspect was charged with two charges of first-degree murder, as well as a number of other charges related to the murders, which began in the early hours of August 10 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Marysville.

At about 4 a.m., the suspect got into a fight with a neighbor in the parking lot, shot him twice, then returned and fired a third fatal shot to the head, prosecutors said. Detectives describe the shooting in the parking lot as an "execution".

Earlier, a neighbor told investigators that the suspect asked him to "help him steal motorcycles" and that he "does fentanyl" and is "always angry."

Family attack

The second situation unfolded about 2,5 hours later in Edmonds, 24 km south of the first incident.

The suspect broke into the stranger's house and shot three people. One person died.

There is a recording of a conversation during this chaotic shooting scene. A frightened 32-year-old woman called 911 while gunshots were heard in the background. On the recording, the suspect could be heard saying to the woman, “I will take care of you. Stop screaming."

It became known that the injured husband and wife’s names were Alexey and Yulia. 68-year-old grandmother Tatyana Viktorovna, Alexei’s mother, died on the spot from a shot in the head. 43-year-old Alexey himself was shot twice in the chest, his condition is assessed as stable, he regained consciousness. Julia suffered a bullet wound to the head and is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

There were two small children aged 5 and 7 in the house. The police found them hiding in a closet. They didn't get hurt.

The suspect stole the couple's car and fled. After a chase that ended at Norma Beach Road in Edmonds, the suspect got out of the car and ran. He was found with the help of a K-9 and a helicopter.

After his arrest, the suspect told a doctor that he was undergoing a "detox" at the time of the murder and "needed methadone".

He has eight convictions for burglary and robbery since 2011, but nothing like what he's charged with now.

Motives unknown

Right now, there doesn't seem to be any connection between the two incidents other than the suspect.

Joanna Fulton has been living in the area where the family was shot for decades.

“This quiet alley - it was always quiet here. And now I run home from work and find out that there was a shooting,” Fulton said.
She said the affected family lived there for 10 to 15 years. They have always been good neighbors, the woman has never seen anything suspicious, so she does not understand why they could be a target.

“There were three shots and then two more,” said neighbor Robert Green.

Community members are left wondering why.

“I don’t know what the motive is,” Fulton said. - I can’t understand, it was a magnificent family! And there is no logic or reason to this.”
