San Francisco banned the sale of cigarettes to people under 21 of the year
In June, San Francisco will start selling tobacco and e-cigarettes to people who have turned 21. This law was unanimously voted on by the city district council.
Voting was held after the age of tobacco purchase increased in New York, Boston and Hawaii.
Until the law comes into force, cigarettes will be sold to those who are 18 +.
According to the medical report, 90% of daily smokers first tried cigarettes before the age of 19. Therefore, raising the age limit will make it harder for young people to access cigarettes through classmates and friends, the report says.
Earlier in San Francisco banned smoking in public parks and sports fields.
As wrote ForumDaily, smoking, alcohol and prescription opioid-based painkillers meet for more deaths every year than any other drugs combined.
