The phrase “Polish death camp” was banned in Poland, Israel is outraged

The lower house of the Polish parliament passed a bill introducing criminal penalties for using the phrases “Polish death camp” to describe the Nazi concentration camps that existed in occupied Poland, writes about this NEWSru.co.il.

According to the document, the former concentration camps should be called “German concentration camps”.

The passed bill prohibits publicly accusing Poland of involvement in Holocaust crimes, complicity in Nazi Germany, war crimes or crimes against humanity.

Any citizen of Poland and even a foreigner who violated this prohibition may be sentenced to a fine or imprisonment of up to three years. Those who try to "deliberately downplay the responsibility of the true perpetrators of these crimes" will also be punished.

For the entry into force of the bill must be approved by the Senate, as well as signed by the President of Poland.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry criticized this legislative initiative and asked the Polish parliament to make corrections to the document before it is considered in the Senate.

“Israel opposes the bill and asks the Polish government to correct it before continuing the legislative process. No law can change historical truth. There is no place for attempts to “educate” the families of Holocaust survivors who live every day with the memory of their loved ones burned in this hell,” the statement reads. statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke out strongly against the adoption of this law.

“It is impossible to change history and it is unacceptable to deny the Holocaust. “I have ordered the Israeli embassy in Poland to immediately meet with the head of the Polish government and express to him my categorical position against the law,” he wrote in Facebook.

The Minister of Finance of Israel, Moshe Kahlon, also condemned the Polish bill.

“There is one historical truth, quite definite and proven, and that is the horrors of the Nazi oppressors and those who helped them, including Poland,” he said.

Israel fears that the new rule will contribute to the denial of the role of Poland in crimes against the Jews.
