Hollywood Reporter named Ukrainian "Tribe" the best film of the year

The rating was published in the American magazine The Hollywood Reporter. Headed the ten best films of the year, namely the Ukrainian picture.

The compiler of the rating Todd McCarthy advised “remember the director’s name, even if they cannot pronounce it”.

The director of the film “Tribe” is Miroslav Slaboshpytsky, a Ukrainian by origin.

The film is “a stunning study of the degradation of society,” the magazine says.

The following are rated films by John Crowley "Brooklyn", Laszlo Nemesh "Son of Saul" and the tape with the participation of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Rolling Stone magazine called this picture of the love of deaf-and-dumb teenagers the most exciting 2015 film of the year. Another Magazine included it in the list of the main revolutionary films in the entire history of cinema.

The Forum met with director Miroslav Slaboshpitsky after one of impressions at the Film Forum cinema in New York, where viewers arranged a warm welcome for him and started asking questions.

“Tribe” is a silent film in which deaf and unprofessional actors play. Will this give rise to some kind of trend?

In the "art-house" films generally speak little. If you look at the average film from the Berlinale, they say quite a bit of it. In my film, this trend is brought to the limit, to the reception, so to speak.

Is the topic exhausted?

I think and even am sure that the success of the film is inspired by the very fact that we managed to do something very new, very fresh, and in the cinema this is almost unreal. For more than a hundred years, everything is already known in it. And then suddenly such an unexpected turn.

The film is unusual and that is why, one way or another, all people react to it.

Therefore, the second time this trick is unlikely to repeat.

Work on the film lasted more than a year, have you managed to learn sign language at any level during this time?

No, not at all, and there was no such goal, it is incredibly difficult, especially our sign language, because it differs from the American one. In American there is a certain alphabet, for example, to spell a name or a name. For all the other there are separate gestures, these are like hieroglyphs. In sign language, I know curses - and I missed them. For the rest, we had translators.

The film received 39 awards: three prizes in Cannes, the European Opening of the European Film Academy for the best debut, prizes of the International Film Festival in London, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Denver, Milan, Yerevan, Minsk. In addition, the film received the award "Best Film" of the Dublin International Film Festival.

The film is sold for rental in 40 countries, including the United States, Britain, Canada, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, Australia.
