NBC TV channel dismissed a well-known host after harassment charges

Matt Lauer, a familiar face on Morning News Today for two decades, was fired by NBC on Wednesday after his female colleague filed a statement accusing him of inappropriate sexual behavior during the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014.

In addition, according to the charges, this behavior continued in the workplace after the end of the games, NBC News confirmed.

Lauer has worked for NBC for over 20 years. “We received a complaint from an employee about the inappropriate sexual behavior of Matt Lauer at the workplace, which is a violation of the company's standards,” said the head of the TV channel Andrew Lack to employees.

Although this is the first complaint about his behavior for more than 20 years, while he worked at NBC News, there is every reason to believe that this may not be the only incident.

“Our highest priority is to create workplaces where everyone feels safe and to ensure that there are consequences for any actions that go against our core values,” added Andrew Lack. “We are deeply saddened by this turn of events. But we will solve this problem together as a news organization, and we will do it in the most transparent way possible.”

Hours after Lauer was fired, Variety released the results of a two-month investigation in which 3 women accused him of sexual harassment.

The women chose to remain anonymous because they did not want this case to have professional consequences. Two women said that Lauer has a button under his desk, which allowed him to "lock the door inside without getting up."
The dismissal of the TV host commented on US President Donald Trump.

Lauer's dismissal takes place a week after CBS News ended a contract with veteran journalist Charlie Rose, accusing him of being sexually harassed by many women.
