The United States will not lift sanctions until the return of the Crimea to Ukraine

US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert issued a statement to the media dedicated to the third anniversary of the signing of the Minsk agreements aimed at resolving the crisis in Ukraine, writes “Voice of America«.

“Unfortunately,” the statement notes, “Russia continues to ignore its obligations under the Minsk agreements, adding fuel to the fire of the conflict in Ukraine, which has already claimed more 10000 lives, including more 2500 civilians, and made 1,6 displaced a million Ukrainians. "

Russia continues to deny its direct involvement in the conflict, and forces controlled by the Kremlin continue their policy of intimidating independent media and civil society and hindering safe access to unarmed OSCE observers, the US foreign ministry said.

At the same time, the document says, Ukraine adopted legislative acts providing for an amnesty for members of anti-government formations and a special status for Donbass, which indicates Kiev’s desire to implement the Minsk agreements.

As emphasized in the statement, the United States, acting together with Germany and France, once again urges the Russian government to stop the aggression in Ukraine. The United States once again confirms that the sanctions regime against Russia will continue until Moscow fulfills its obligations under the Minsk agreements.

As for the sanctions imposed after the annexation of the Crimea, they will remain in force until Russia returns the peninsula to Ukraine.

Recall that Ukraine 18 January 2018, at the legislative level recognized Russia is a country that temporarily occupied territories in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
