A human rights activist posing as an African American can get 15 years in prison
Human rights activist Rachal Dolezal, who for almost 20 has been posing as an African American for years and headed the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Spokane, Wash., Can get 15 years in prison for social security fraud, writes USA Today.
In 2016, Dolezal changed her name to Nekki Diallo. She is accused of financial fraud, perjury, and providing false data for obtaining state aid.
She illegally received $ 8 747 as food stamps and $ 100 child care assistance from August 2015 to November 2017. A woman brings up two sons.
In addition, she concealed income information. From August 2015 to September 2017, an amount of about $ 83 924 came to her bank account, which she did not report to DSHS.
At the same time in February 2017, in an interview with The Guardian, she told how she survived on food stamps, saying that she was offered a job only in a reality show or the porn industry. At that time, she stated that she risks becoming homeless.
In addition, Dolezal wrote the book In Full Color: Finding My Place in the Black and White World, after which the Washington Department of Social and Medical Services began to verify the truth that a woman earns only 500 dollars per month.
A scandal broke out a few years ago. Dolezal caught that she pretending to be African American. She was born white parents, she has Swedish, Czech and German roots. All the years of her activity she darkened the skin with cosmetics, and received curly hair with the help of a perm.
During a television interview in November 2015, Dolezal admitted that she was born from white parents, but stressed that she feels like an African American. Due to contradictions with her racial identity, she resigned as president of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).
In the past month Netflix announced the launch of a documentary about Dolezal called Rachel divide.
