Greyhound bus passengers stopped a sleepy driver
Passengers of one of the Greyhound Lines buses heading from Phoenix, Arizona to Dallas, Texas stopped the bus because the driver fell asleep at the wheel, writes USA Today.
The company confirmed the incident and reported that the driver was fired.
One of the passengers, Jasmine McClellan, recorded a video of the incident and said that it was "one of the worst events I have come across."
“By morning, we politely asked her about four times to stop at the side of the road. We finally convinced her to stop in the middle of New Mexico, but she almost flipped the bus. It was very reckless behavior,” McClellan recalls.
According to her, the patrol officers were called up, who escorted the bus to the nearest gas station, where the driver was replaced. The woman noted that the bus was one of the patrol, who was watching the driver.
Another passenger, Philip Hurd, recalled that people began to worry after the bus started to go sideways, and they noticed that the driver was falling asleep.
"We went to the white line, and everyone began to shout:" Wake up. " She had tweezers with which she poked herself so as not to fall asleep. As a result, we began to ask her to stop, as there were children on the bus. ”
The bus arrived in Dallas seven hours later than it should have been. The cabin was a 60 man.
“We are currently studying the incident, as we are very serious about driver fatigue. Our drivers keep in touch with the dispatchers all the time, and if they say that they are tired, they are removed from the schedule and give 12 hours at least to recuperate. ”
The company is conducting an internal investigation.
