German magazine using AI created and published an interview with Schumacher: the driver's family sued the publication

The family of former Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher plans to sue the magazine for publishing an AI-generated interview with the athlete. Writes about it with the BBC.

The German magazine Die Aktuelle positioned this interview as exclusive and the first for Schumacher after he suffered a severe head injury in December 2013 and stopped appearing in public.

On April 15, a photo of Schumacher appeared on the cover of Die Aktuelle with the headline "Michael Schumacher, first interview!".

Already in the article itself there is a clarification: Schumacher's answers were generated by artificial intelligence. Among the responses, for example, is a “comment” about life after trauma.

“My life completely changed after the incident. It was a terrible time for my wife, my children and my entire family. I was so badly injured that I was in an induced coma for months. Otherwise, my body would not be able to cope with all this,” is how the AI ​​presented Schumacher’s answer.

The family confirmed that they plan to take the matter to court.

Schumacher, a seven-time Formula 1 champion, was seriously injured skiing in the Alps in December 2013, and doctors, fearing for his life, put him in a state of artificial coma.

In June 2014, Schumacher's manager announced that he had come out of a coma and was now in for a long rehabilitation.

“As for his future, we ask for your understanding - his further rehabilitation will not be public,” Sabina Kam said then.

Since that time, the former athlete has been recovering on the shores of Lake Geneva. In December 2018, the media reported that Schumacher was no longer bedridden and did not need a ventilator, but needed constant care.

However, the family of the former Formula 1 pilot does not disclose details about his health.

In the 2021 Netflix documentary, Schumacher's wife Corinna said: "We live at home. We do therapy. We are doing our best to make Michael feel better and want to make sure he is comfortable. We just let him feel our family, our connection.” In the same film, Schumacher's wife and son confirmed that he was incapable of independent movement and full communication with others.

She explained that Michael was against publicity and always said that “private is private.”

“Michael has always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael,” said Corinna.

Schumacher won two F1 World Drivers' Championship titles with Benetton in 1994 and 1995, and from 2000 to 2004 he won five consecutive titles with Ferrari.

Having won 12 of the first 13 Grands Prix in 2004, Schumacher became world champion ahead of schedule for the seventh time, which was a Formula 1 record, which was broken only in 2020 by British race car driver Lewis Hamilton.

Schumacher's son Mick is also involved in car racing. He previously drove for Haas and is now a reserve driver for Mercedes-Benz.
