Forest fire near Los Angeles: 1500 people were evacuated

The raging fire on the rocky mountains of the Santa Clarita Valley on Sunday grew to nearly a hundred square kilometers, forcing one and a half thousand houses to evacuate. A fire threatened to ignite hundreds of homes.

“A local fire that started the day before in the mountains of the Santa Clarita Valley grew to 22 acres overnight,” the report said.

According to the Los Angeles Fire District Department, 18 buildings were destroyed in the Bear Divide and Sand Canyon area and 1 was damaged.

In the valley of Santa Clarita, on Sunday, 14 expressways closed in both directions. But in the afternoon traffic was restored.

The US Forest Service is asking not to use drones or private jets. In case of detection, a criminal investigation will be initiated.

With fire fighting 1600 firefighters. On planes and helicopters they threw water into the flames. On Sunday, we managed to stop the fire only in 10% of the territory.

“Five years ago, if we had a fire like this, we probably would have stopped [it] in the mountains,” said Daryl Osby, chief of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, at a news conference.

The smoke from the fire is so dense that the sun is not visible through it.

The public pools in Pasadena and Glendale are closed due to smoke and ash.

During the inspection of the burned-out area on Saturday evening, firefighters discovered a human body. Although the sheriff’s department is still investigating, officials said the body was found in a burnt car parked on the road. Traces of violent death not detected.
