Because of E. coli in beef, 17 Americans got sick, one died
One person died and another 17 was poisoned after eating beef producer Cargill Meat Solutions. E.coli was detected in meat, writes The Daily Mail.
The producer now recalls more than 60 Kg of beef, which was packaged on June 21 and shipped to various outlets throughout the country.
Infected beef was packaged in packs of 1 kg, 4 kg, and 9 kg under the brands Our Certified, Excel, Sterling Silver, Certified and Fire River Farms.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture recommend that citizens check the freezers and, if they find this product, throw it away or return it to the store.
Cargill reported that all contaminated products were removed from supermarkets. All divisions of the company are working to strengthen food safety controls.
“We were very saddened to learn that a death may be linked to one of our products being contaminated with E. coli. We express our sincere sympathy to the people affected by this incident,” the company said in a statement.
The Ministry of Agriculture did not publish information about people who died or fell ill because of contaminated meat.
Note that the symptoms of infection with E. coli are diarrhea and vomiting. More serious infections can lead to kidney failure.
