US citizen sentenced to 4,5 years in prison for supporting Islamic State
30-year-old woman has repeatedly posted on the social network Facebook entries in support of the IG group.
Four and a half years in prison was sentenced by a Richmond court in Virginia to US citizen Heather Elizabeth Coffman, convicted of supporting terrorist Islamic State group and giving false testimony to employees of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Coffman, who has a 7-year-old son, pleaded guilty at the trial of her case back in February and said she regretted what she had done.
In accordance with the data of US law enforcement agencies, 30-year-old woman has repeatedly posted on the social network Facebook records in support of the IG group. In addition, she tried to help a minor citizen of Macedonia get training in the ranks of the Islamists, to subsequently join their like-minded people in Syria. He, among other things, expressed readiness to carry out a terrorist attack at the cost of his own life. However, this teenager then abandoned such plans after his relationship with Coffman deteriorated, which they maintained via the Internet. An American woman for a time called this Macedonian her husband or claimed that they were engaged.
Activities Coffman interested in the FBI. The operative of the department who pretended to be an extremist supporter contacted her and asked her to assist in joining grouping IG, and the woman agreed, taking action in this direction.
According to prosecutors, Coffman took “concrete steps” to assist the ISIS group. If her activities had not been stopped, people would have died, the prosecution emphasized.
