The FBI questioned the chief editor of the pro-Kremlin American edition
At the Washington airport, FBI officers detained a Russian journalist, the first deputy chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of Russia on the development of the information community, the media and mass communications, Alexander Malkevich.
The Russian Embassy in Washington demanded clarification from the US State Department regarding the incident, writes "Reviewer".
“In connection with media reports about the detention of the Russian journalist Malkevich by the FBI at Washington airport, a request was sent to the State Department about the circumstances of the incident,” the Russian Embassy in the United States said on Twitter.
The diplomatic mission recommended that Russian citizens in such cases “immediately demand communication with the embassy.”
According to the Public Chamber of Russia, Malkevich went to the United States as an observer at the election of the governor of Maryland.
According to the Telegram channel “Moscow Speaks,” Alexander Malkevich said that he was detained in Washington to notify him of the need to register the USA Really project as a foreign agent.
“The detention took place at the Washington airport, shortly before my flight to Paris. Well, it’s a strong feeling, of course, when you’re walking, a hand is placed on your shoulder from behind, and a stern voice says: “Mister, Malkevich”... then people surround you, show you IDs with the letters FBI and invite you to follow them,” the journalist told the publication “TVNZ».
According to Malkiewicz, the FBI agents escorted him to a closed room in which there were about 20 people. There he was presented with a warrant for detention, as well as the seizure of all electronic media from him.
"All the information was copied, the clock was removed from me ... They were probably looking for lists of candidates Moscow “moved” in the elections,” Malkevich sneers.
After this, an interrogation took place, and the journalist was repeatedly warned that it would be desirable for him to answer all the questions from the agents.
“I was given a written request that within one month I consider the possibility of registering as a foreign agent in the United States,” Malkevich added.
At the moment he has already left the USA and is in Paris.
