13-year-old girl found mom's card and spent $64 on games

A teenage girl from China spent about $64 of her parents' savings on mobile games. With this, she destroyed all the savings of the family. Read more about the incident told the publication Insider.

Gong Yiwang became aware of the mass spending in late May after she received a phone call from a teacher at her daughter's school. She was worried that the child was addicted to paid games.

When Gong checked her bank account, she realized that she only had seven cents left.

She later discovered that from January to May, her daughter spent about $16 on game accounts and almost $800 on in-game purchases. In addition, the girl transferred money to at least 30 classmates who wanted to buy gaming products for themselves, bringing the total cost to about $000.

“I never thought a 13-year-old girl could do this,” Gong said.

Breaking into tears, the daughter confessed that she linked her debit card to her mobile phone, but did not know where the money came from and how much she was spending. She explained that she remembered her mother telling her the account password when she asked her to buy something.

According to the girl, school friends noticed her newfound purchasing power and pestered her with a request for money.

“If I hadn’t sent them to them, they would have bothered me all day. I did not dare to tell the teacher, because he could tell my parents and they would be angry, ”she explained.

Child deleted chat and transaction records to hide payments from parents.

Gong said she has reached out to several payment platforms to request a refund but has yet to recover her losses in full.

A story about a girl's spending habits went viral in China at the end of May with over 140 million views on Weibo (Chinese version of Twitter).

Gaming addiction among young people in China is so common that the country has imposed internet restrictions on teenagers and children. Under the laws of the country, they must not spend more than three hours a week on video games, and the Chinese government has said that it is steadily moving towards this goal.
