In the US, recall the flour because of the outbreak of infection

The grocery store chain recalls flour due to fears of infection with E. coli. The recall occurs after at least 17 people in eight states are sick.

A press release from ALDI states that 5-pound packages of flour produced by ADM Milling Co. E. coli may be present in Buffalo, NY.

UPC 041498130404 packs were sold in ALDI stores in eleven states:

1. Connecticut,
2. Delaware,
3. Massachusetts,
4. New hampshire
5. New Jersey,
6. New York,
7. Ohio,
8. Pennsylvania,
9. Rhode Island,
10. Vermont
11. West Virginia.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 17 people in eight states contracted E. coli strain. Reports of injuries began to arrive from 11 December 2018 of the year to 18 of April 2019 of the year and affected people between the ages of 7 and 86 of years.

“Epidemiological and laboratory data indicate that flour is the likely source of this outbreak,” the CDC said.

According to the CDC, three people were hospitalized, but no deaths were reported.

“The investigation is ongoing. The FDA is working to determine whether other brands may be potentially contaminated and should be recalled, the CDC said. “CDC will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

The symptoms of E. coli in people can vary, but often include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often with blood) and vomiting, according to the CDC. Most people get better within 5-7 days, but sometimes the disease can be life threatening.

“Some people with STEC (E. coli) infection may develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome,” the CDC states.

ALDI warns against the use of a recall product. Buyers should immediately throw it away or return to their local store for a full refund.
