American swimmer Ryan Lochte is suspended from competing at 10 months after an incident at a gas station during the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

In addition, the athlete is deprived of a prize of $ 100 thousand for the gold medal, which he won at the Games. Lochte himself said that he agreed with the punishment.

In late August, Brazilian police charged Lochte with filing a deliberately false statement of robbery during the Rio Olympics.

According to police, Lochte and his teammates lied about the armed robbery they allegedly suffered on August 7.

According to the investigation, the athletes accidentally broke down the toilet door at the gas station, and then argued with the security guard and the owner of the establishment, who demanded compensation for the damage. After that, the Americans told the police that they had been robbed by armed men posing as policemen.

In the scandalous history, except Lochte, swimmers of the US Olympic team Gunnar Benz, Jack Conger and James Feigen, who previously won gold medals in relay races, were implicated.

Ryan Lochte left Brazil before the police could interrogate him due to the newly discovered circumstances of the incident.

After the departure, the owner of the 12 Olympic medals apologized for his behavior and the fictional story about the robbery.
