In the US Senate, they want to revive the service to catch Russian spies

The US Congress is trying to get the White House to revive a committee that tracks Russian spies. Reports about it BuzzFeed.

A similar group acted during the Cold War, but then ceased to exist. According to the US intelligence officer, the new committee is planned to be established, taking the former group as a basis.

The US Senate Intelligence Committee has already appealed to the White House with a request to re-assemble a group that will deal with exposing Russian spies, as well as investigating murders related to Russia. The proposal is contained in the bill on the authorization of special services, the Senate should consider the document in 2017 year.

The exact composition of the group must be determined by the president; Committee members will be recruited from State Department staff, intelligence agencies, and several other government services. Group meetings should be held once a month.

In addition, according to the bill, the FBI will have to check applications for travel in the United States received from Russian diplomats. All trips will be checked for distances greater than 80 kilometers from the workplace. In the event that Russian diplomats incorrectly notify the US authorities about the upcoming trip, all employees of the diplomatic mission for three months will lose the opportunity to leave the 80-kilometer zone.

According to the representative of the US special services, the new regulations were proposed because Russian diplomats did not fully adhere to the established rules for notification of upcoming trips.

“Russians often notify the State Department of trips outside the 80-kilometer zone in 17-00 on Friday, and the State Department does not want to show itself from the bad side (and say no to them),” the official explained.
