Prospect Park in Brooklyn will be completely pedestrian

The authorities in New York decided to do Prospect Park in Brooklyn (from Flatbush avenue to Ocean parkway) only for pedestrians and cyclists, writes BK reader.

Earlier, the mayor of the city, Bill de Blasio, approved a pilot project for the park to be closed for cars from June to September. Now the park will be a pedestrian on an ongoing basis.

“We have taken the right step in providing another safe green space for our children, families and seniors,” said City Council Member Lauri Cumbo.

The authorities analyzed and found out that the park is visited by 8-10 million people a year, and in the morning hours the number of pedestrians significantly exceeds the number of cars.

“I am very pleased that our fleet will now officially be car-free. Now runners, cyclists, families with children, and elderly people will be able to relax in the park safely,” said council representative Brad Lander.

Recall, October 31 on the bike path in the park an accident occurred that killed 8 people.
