In Brooklyn, renamed street, named after the anti-Semite
The city decided to rename the street in Brooklyn, named after the famous anti-Semite, writes New York Post.
Corbin place on Brighton Beach was named in honor of the 19-century oligarch Austin Corbin, who was building hotels and railroad tracks on Manhattan Beach, and an ardent anti-Semite. The former president of the American Society for the Suppression of Jews often used the word "exterminate" in relation to Jewish Americans.
The street will still be called Corbin placebut in honor of patriot Margaret Corbin, who fought in the American Revolutionary War. She fought in the battle for Fort Washington 16 November 1776 of the year.
According to city councilor Haim Deutsch, he rendered support from the community council and city council to rename the street.
“As the son of Holocaust survivors, I am eager to use this opportunity to publicly reject the hatred that Austin Corbyn has sowed. Through this symbolic ceremony, we will memorialize the contributions of a more honorable Corbin, the first woman to fight for her country in the U.S. military,” Deutsch said.
So, under one of the markets Corbin place will place a small street sign with the inscription "Margaret Corbin Pl". The ceremony will be held next month.
