Trump is not going to congratulate Putin on his victory

US President Donald Trump has not yet congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his re-election as head of state.

Deputy spokesman for the presidential administration, Hogan Gidley, told reporters that the White House "will work on developing relations with Russia," but added that the administration will not allow Russia to "threaten our interests."

On the question of whether the White House considers the elections in Russia to be "free and fair", Guidley replied: "we are not surprised by the result."

International election observers in Russia called them “overly controlled” and noted that there was “no real competition” in them.

Michael Georg Link, who led the team of observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, said that the elections were held professionally and in an organized way, but the voting was held on an “unequal playing field.”

As of March 19, Putin and British Prime Minister Theresa May did not congratulate Putin on the next presidential term.

Official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, said that such a greeting was not obligatory, writes Rtvi.

According to her, there are international protocols on this issue, but it is not necessary to congratulate on the victory in the elections.
