The United States threatened Russia with a sea blockade in the Middle East

If desired, the US Navy can block Russia's access to water in the Middle East and thereby reduce the opportunity for energy trade. This was stated by US Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke at a speech in Pittsburgh, writes TJournal with reference to The washington examiner.

“The United States has the ability—through our Navy—to ensure that sea lanes of communication remain open and, if necessary, to block them ... to prevent their energy from reaching the market,” Zinke said.

He believes that Russia is present in the region because of its interest in oil and gas trade: “Russia acts the same way all the time. I believe the reason they are in the Middle East is because they want to control the supply of energy, just like they do in Eastern Europe and the southern region of Europe.”

“In terms of national security, how do we deal with Iran? There are two ways. The first is a military option, which I would not want to use. And there is an economic option. The economic option with Iran and Russia is to more or less displace and replace fuel supplies. We can do this because the United States is the largest producer of oil and gas,” said the US Secretary of the Interior.

The United States is trying to put pressure on Iran so that the country abandons the idea of ​​​​creating nuclear weapons that contradicts international norms. So, on May 21, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo put forward 12 conditions for concluding a new agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, relating both directly to the nuclear sphere and geopolitics. At the same time, Russia is an ally of Iran in many issues.
