“Thank God, there will soon be war” - priest of the Russian Orthodox Church

The well-known representative of the Russian Orthodox Church, the priest Vsevolod Chaplin, expressed the hope that a peaceful and comfortable life would soon end in Russia.

“If a society lives in conditions of relative peace, tranquility, satiety, for a certain number of decades - a couple, three - it can live in conditions of secularism,” said the chairman of the Synodal Department for Interaction between Church and Society. “No one will go to die for the market, no one will go to die for democracy.” And the need to die for society, for its future, always arises sooner or later. Peace does not last long. The peace now, thank God, will not last long either.”

“Why do I say “thank God?” - Vsevolod Chaplin explained his hope for a quick end to peace and tranquility. “A society in which there is too much well-fed, calm, problem-free and comfortable life is a society abandoned by God. This society does not last long. God himself will correct the balance between secularism and religiosity by intervening in history and sending suffering, which, in this case, will be beneficial and will allow those who are too accustomed to living quietly, calmly and comfortably to come to their senses.”

When, in response to what was said by the Russian archpriest, his opponent noted that Chaplin had just said that “thank God, there will soon be war,” the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church confirmed these words: “If people are used to living too calmly, it is better that...”
