2016 Presidential Debates: What to Expect and Where to Look at in Russian

Since the first such debate drew an audience of 1960 million people in 74, presidential debates have been a fixture of US elections. But then only the television audience was “present”. This year's debates will be available to everyone on the planet, with a growing majority choosing to watch them on a computer or handheld device.

Some experts predict that the first debate that will take place on September 26 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, will break all records with an audience of 100 million.

“I think the debate ratings, especially the first ones, will be above the roof, maybe even closer to the Super Bowl ratings"- said in an interview with the Washington news site The Hill Paul Levinson, a professor of communications at Fordham University, referring to the American football championship, which attracts massive television ratings.

One of the reasons for such a stir is that the presidential debates will be broadcast by all major networks live on television, on the websites of many media, through Facebook and YouTube. For the first time, in partnership with Bloomberg, Twitter will broadcast debates on its home page, so users will not even have to take their eyes off the screen for tweet-commenting.

No matter how you look at them, Americans see the debate as an important opportunity to observe the communication of two candidates in real time when they have to make decisions instantly. Unlike disputes in a high school or university discussion club, presidential debates do not follow strict rules and are not counted. Winners are not announced, although almost every one of the viewers will have an opinion on who won.

The second round of debates will be held on October 9 at the University of Washington in St. Louis, and the third on October 19 at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.

Although both candidates will undoubtedly set forth their plans for the political course and their vision of the country for the coming 4 of the year, most attentively many viewers will watch the interaction between them when they stand side by side.
