Elderly woman wakes up neck in mud after a landslide in California
75-year-old Susan Gordon was sleeping in her two-story house in Sausalito, California, when due to a landslide, her house was pulled from the foundation and dragged down the slope. The house crashed into another building, writes ABC7 News.
According to her son, Susan woke up neck in the mud.
“I didn’t realize the extent of what happened until I watched the video after speaking to my mother, who ended up in hospital. I’m shocked and very happy that she’s still with us,” Brooks Gordon said.
The woman was taken to the hospital, but quickly released. Surprisingly, she did not suffer serious injuries, only a few cuts and abrasions.
Rescuers evacuated dozens of houses that were located in the area where the landslide occurred.
“Neighbors were running up and down the street trying to get out,” recalls evacuee Stephen Barber.
As a result, people were allowed to return home - all except residents of six objects that were marked by rescuers as unsafe.
Zach Garza lives in one of the recognized unsafe house. He took the scale of the disaster from his balcony when he returned to the house for things. A large hole formed near his house. He recalls that the sound of a landslide resembled a freight train.
“Right next to our bedroom. Almost on the roof of the house. It felt like something was collapsing,” Garza recalls.
On the GoFundMe opened a fundraiser to help the victims of the landslide in Sausalito.
