Cannabis use can lead to cardiac arrest and other heart problems.

A new study shows that young people and middle-aged people who consume marijuana may have an increased risk of developing complications of cardiovascular diseases.

An article in the American Heart Association states that almost 2 percent of the health complications of cannabis use were related to the cardiovascular system, and a quarter of these complications resulted in death.

“This result is consistent with previous findings and strengthens the idea that cannabis may be responsible for serious complications, particularly in the cardiovascular system.

Marijuana may cause cardiovascular complications, which should be taken into account by health care providers and consumers,” the authors write in their study. The scientists found that in 22 of the 35 cases, people had heart problems, and 20 then had a heart attack. Ten of the 35 cases were associated with disease in the arteries. Nine of the 35 patients died from cardiovascular complications.

The authors suspect that the number of cardiovascular complications associated with health and mortality among marijuana users is actually much higher than the data show, since many cases remain unreported and it is often difficult to determine what caused the health problems.
