Honorary Director of the Metropolitan Opera accused of sexual harassment

The honorary musical director of the Metropolitan Opera James Levine was accused of sexual harassment.

A man, whose name was not disclosed, claims that the incident occurred in 1985, when the prosecutor was a teenager, writes New York Times.

The man left a statement about sexual harassment by Levine in the Illinois police in 2016 year.

According to this document, he met Levine at the Illinois festival in 1985. At that time he was 15, and he wanted to make a career in music.

He claims that for the first time, Levine was “very sensual” holding his hand. At the next meetings, the conductor, according to the applicant, lay with him naked in bed and touched his penis, first forcing the victim to undress.

The applicant's relative said that he first heard this story from him back in 1993, then he confessed to him about what happened in a private conversation.

The police investigation documents also contain a college recommendation that Levine wrote for the alleged victim of his harassment in 1987. In it, the conductor wrote that he knew the teenager "for almost 15 years." The applicant told the police that Levine had given him money over the years; the total amount he estimated was about 50 000 dollars.

Levine was the music director of the Metropolitan Opera from 1976 to 2016, rumors of sexual harassment were heard from him before, but the conductor denied all the accusations.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Opera said the organization would begin an investigation into the charges against Levine.
