UN: Every ninth Ukrainian needs humanitarian aid

Because of the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, every ninth Ukrainian is currently in need of humanitarian assistance. This was announced by Jens Larke, who is the spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Thus, about 5 of millions of Ukrainians now need urgent humanitarian aid. First of all, it is necessary for those who live in the zone of military conflict and in areas close to hostilities.

The aid groups asked for Ukraine at least 316 million dollars. But donor countries have so far provided only 35 percent of this amount, despite the fact that the situation in the east of the country is heating up.

In a few months the cold will come, so the number of people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance will increase dramatically, said Larka.
