Obama vetoed a law authorizing arms supplies to Ukraine

US President Barack Obama has vetoed a draft defense budget approved by Congress, providing, among other things, for the supply of arms to Ukraine.

Obama has repeatedly promised earlier to prevent the adoption of such a bill, due to disagreements with Congress on the terms of the allocation of money for some programs.

In particular, Obama opposed the fact that many points in the bill are being funded as military operations abroad in an emergency mode.

“I have repeatedly appealed to Congress to avoid sequestration in order to ensure the stability of our armed forces. However, this bill is full of tricks, ”Obama said.

It should be noted that the Republicans who control the US Congress do not have enough votes to overcome the presidential veto. Thus, the discussion of the budget will continue.

Recall, adopted by the Congress in October, the draft defense budget, which vetoed President Barack Obama, provided for military spending totaling 612 billion dollars, of which 300 million was supposed to be reserved for military aid to Ukraine.

The US has been providing material and technical support to the Ukrainian army since the spring of 2014, as well as sending instructors to train military personnel.

For the whole of last year The United States spent on increasing the defense capacity of Ukraine about $ 118 million. This money was spent on the purchase of body armor, helmets, vehicles, night vision devices and thermal imagers, heavy engineering equipment, modern radio stations, patrol boats, rations, tents, anti-warning radars, uniforms and other things.
