Moscow will design and build its own Mistrals
Moscow has lost hope of receiving the French Mistral helicopter carriers ordered in 2011, and currently Russia is only negotiating with France on compensation for the failure of the contract.
This was told by the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Military-Industrial Commission Oleg Bochkarev.
According to the official, Russia will not copy the Mistral, but will build its own landing ships of a different class.
“We have such ships planned, they are in our project, but we built them according to a different class, we have a different ideology of landing troops. There is no goal to copy the Mistral,” RBC quotes Bochkarev as saying.
Let us recall that the contract for the Mistrals was frozen by Paris due to the position taken by the Kremlin on Ukraine and the subsequent international sanctions imposed against Russia by Western countries.
