According to a survey conducted Gallup in the 2017 year, 64% of Americans support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes.

Support for legalization is caused by a change in the public perception of the potential harm to marijuana, as well as the prospect of receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue from this business, writes USA Today.

Recreational marijuana is currently legal in eight states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Washington, DC. Medical marijuana is legal in the 28 regions of the United States. Most states legalized the use of marijuana for recreational purposes after legalizing medical cannabis. This attempt failed only in Arizona.

Employment in marijuana-related industries in the United States is about 150 thousand people, and according to forecasts, by the year 2020 this figure will increase to 300 thousand.

Despite the widespread legalization of medical marijuana, only about 21% of the US population lives in states or districts that legalized recreational cannabis.
