SolarCity, the leader of the California solar energy market, will soon introduce a revolutionary new product - the “solar roof”, which will consist entirely of solar panels. This was stated by Ilon Musk, who is the chairman of the board of directors of the company. According to him, solar roofs will look much better and serve much more than ordinary roofs.

The company will build solar roofs on the basis of backup batteries manufactured by Tesla, a company owned by Mask. It is assumed that through the use of these roofs it will be possible to use solar energy around the clock.

The first samples of solar roofs will be presented by the end of 2016. On the fourth quarter of 2016, the completion of Tesla and SolarCity is also scheduled to be completed (recall last week that Tesla Motors buys solar cell manufacturer SolarCity for $ 2,6 billion) SolarCity, located in Buffalo, will be producing roofs, and the company will launch its first production line in the second quarter of 2017.

According to Mask, the new product will help SolarCity to cope with the fall in the volume of orders for solar panels, focusing on a new category of consumers: people who need a completely new roof. Every year, only in the United States change the order of 5 million roofs.

SolarCity was founded in July of 2006 by the brothers Peter and Lyndon Riva. The idea to start a business in the field of solar energy came to their cousin Ilon Mask, who became the head of the company and helped with the launch of the project.
