The number of victims of Hurricane Harvey reached 60 people

At least 60 people died from Hurricane Harvey, which resulted in more than a meter of precipitation in southeast Texas in a few days.

Many of the deaths are due to people drowning during flash floods or water intakes, emergency services officials said. Six family members, including four children, were drowned in their van. The car crossed the bridge when the water flow washed away. Only one man managed to survive, trying to save the children, but to no avail. The youngest child was 6 years old.

Earlier, they officially talked about 47 dead and two dozen missing people.

In Harris County, which faced a catastrophic flood, the highest mortality is recorded - from 30 killed by hurricane Harvey.

Emergency management departments report that the list included those who died directly during the hurricane, and from its consequences.

So a large amount of water washed the ground around trees that fell on two houses in Montgomery County, which resulted in two deaths, said Cynthia Jameson district spokesman.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that a couple died while traveling outside of Jasper, Texas, when a tree fell on their car.

Due to a power outage, several elderly people in different districts died after losing their livelihoods. Flooding also prevented doctors and other emergency services from quickly making calls.

Hurricane Harvey struck Texas on the state of 25 in August, when it increased to the 4 category, but brought massive flooding to Houston and other areas. Rainfall in some places has reached the 1,3 meter.

Some representatives of Houston stressed that the recovery began from Hurricane Harvey. Mayor Sylvester Turner declared America’s fourth largest city "open to business."

President Donald Trump turned to Congress to pay $ 7,9 billion in to assist and rebuild the affected districts. Texas Governor Greg Abbott suggested that the cost of recovery could be as high as 180 billions of dollars.
