Americans warned of an outbreak of a dangerous disease in the US

Federal health officials have warned consumers to refrain from buying more than two dozen salads that are available in the main grocery chains because of concerns about their possible contamination by parasites.

Monday public health warning published by the Security and Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture, reported that some salads with beef, pork and poultry, as well as some already packaged products may be contaminated with cyclosporum. Groceries were sold at grocery stores, including Kroger, Trader Joe's and Walgreens.

Cyclospor is a microscopic parasite that causes cyclosporia. People who become infected with it usually suffer from severe diarrhea and intestinal pain. Other common symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, abdominal cramps, bloating, flatulence, nausea and fatigue. In some cases, the infection is accompanied by vomiting, body pain, headache, fever, and other flu-like symptoms. Some people infected with cyclosporia have no symptoms. In most cases, patients do not need hospitalization, but sometimes the disease can lead to complications and the need for additional treatment.

Cyclosporia can be treated with antibiotics.

In a warning, the US Department of Agriculture stated that the problem was discovered when food distributor Caito Food in Indianapolis received a notification from its supplier of lettuce Fresh Express that "cut romaine, which is used to produce some of their salads and finished products, was recalled."

The US Department of Agriculture is concerned that "some products may be in consumers' refrigerators and put at risk because of the length of the cyclospore incubation period." The warning said that the incubation period ranged from two to fourteen days.

Consumers who have already eaten these products, strongly recommend that they be thrown away or returned to the store.

In order not to get sick with cyclosporosis, you must follow a number of rules:

- choose to eat only fresh vegetables and greens, not to buy them in places of unauthorized trade;

- before eating vegetables and greens thoroughly wash and rinse with boiling water;

- before preparing salads, wash hands thoroughly with detergent;

- to make salads, use a specially selected knife and a separate cutting board;

- fill salads just before serving;

- make salads in small quantities, so as not to leave for storage in finished form.

Remember that you can not engage in cooking in the presence of signs of intestinal disorders.

If symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately.

The news of the recall came after the outbreak of cyclospore infection, which began in May and is related to mcdonald's saladssupplied by Fresh Express. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the total number of laboratory-confirmed diseases from this outbreak was 286 people as of July 26. At least 11 patients were hospitalized.
